Does the Ultherapy Treatment Hurt?

Prior to the start of your Ultherapy treatment, we will cleanse the skin and apply a numbing anesthetic. This helps to reduce any potential discomfort during the treatment. Most patients experience a light sensation during treatment, similar to a light shock feeling. Once the energy is delivered the sensation subsides. Post treatment most patients feel tender to the touch of the treatment area for up to 2 weeks. This will gradually subside as time goes on.

Depending on concern most patients see ideal results after one treatment, however, if severe laxity/lifting is needed, patients may need an additional round 3-6 months post their first treatment. 

After your Ultherapy treatment, you can expect mild redness and swelling for 2-4 days after treatment, similar to a very mild sunburn. As this treatment does not alter the skin, makeup can be worn immediately post treatment.

As this treatment targets deeper lifting within the skin the results do take time to come in, patients can notice results in as little as 6 weeks with full results by 6 months. This gradual result creates a natural lift without friends and family noticing a treatment healing phase at all. 

We do not treat overactive breakouts with Ultherapy. It is best to hold off until the breakout has subsided. The ultrasound will come into contact with the acne bacteria under the skin’s surface and spread it, potentially flaring the breakout even more.

Unlike some alternatives, Ultherapy has been clinically proven effective for women and men with all Fitzpatrick Skin Types I-VI. This treatment uses ultrasound and is color blind when energy is being delivered, preventing pigmentation from forming and hyperactivating.

We ask patients to prepare for their skin pen treatment by refraining from the use of Retinol, Glycolic and other active acids a minimum of 4 days before scheduled treatment.
